Care Journey in Developmental Pediatrics

How to Refer to Developmental Pediatrics, and What Happens After

Sarah welcomes referrals from Pediatricians, General Practitionners and Nurse Practitionners. If we lack sufficient detail to appropriately triage referrals and the child does not already have a pediatrician, it's possible referrals will be internally redirected to General Pediatrics for a preliminary assessment and data collection.

What Sarah Does:

  • Sarah provides subspecialty level consultation for diagnostic clarity and treatment for children with suspected or proven neurodevelopmental disorder.
  • This may include second opinions of a diagnosis provided by a family doctor, pediatrician or psychologist.
  • On a case-by-case basis, Sarah may decide to continue short-term follow up as part of her assessment for features of neurodevelopmental disorders or response to treatment.
  • Sarah can complete ADOS assessments, if needed.

What Sarah Does Not Do:

  • Sarah does not provide ongoing care to children with ASD or other neurodevelopmental disorders. Her services at Pinecone are purely consultative, and ongoing care is best assured by General Pediatrics or primary care providers like GPs or NPs. For children without existing pediatricians, the physicians at Pinecone collaborate together to provide wraparound care!
  • Allied health services at Pinecone like Psychology and Occupational Therapy are not funded by AHCIP, and are not included with consultations in Developmental Pediatrics.
